OREANDA-NEWS. April 1, 2009. The Uralmash Machine-building Corporation has delivered a gantry container crane for an open terminal of the ISUZU automobile factory in Alabuga special economic area. The crane is designed by NPO VNIIPTMASH and produced by Uralmashplant (both companies are parts of MK Uralmash).

Crane erection is currently underway with contract supervision carried out by specialists of NPO VNIIPTMASH. Commissioning of the crane is scheduled for October 2009.

The crane is designed to handle high-tonnage container up to 36 tons and to irregularly handle unit loads up to 31 ton. The estimated number of handled containers is up to 4500 pcs per month.

Crane weight is 260 tons with span of 42 meters and operating cantilever span of 8 and 11 meters. Total rail track length is 500 meters. The crane is one of the most complex crane-type handling machines.

Experts from NPO VNIIPTMASH have designed the gantry container crane with one fixed support and one flexible steel tower. The flexible steel tower features a damping device to reduce longitudinal vibrations of the crane bridge, typical for cranes of that type. This feature prevents premature fatigue and improves crane operator's working conditions. The crane is also provided with a steel cable bracing system, an automatic crane self-leveling system, automatic crane security holds and two electrical equipment rooms that also house the control system. The design allows operation in special climatic conditions; other conditions of operation have also been considered.
