OREANDA-NEWS. On 02 April 2009 was announced, that a working meeting between Gazprom’s Management Committee Chairman Alexey Miller and Enel’s Chief Executive Officer Fulvio Conti was held at the Gazprom Headquarters.

The parties discussed upon the aspects of cooperation in the energy sector.

A focus was placed on beginning of joint work within the frame of Enel’s power generation projects in Italy as well as on joint projects in Russia.

Talks were held in a cooperative environment, they are expected to continue in the coming days and focused mainly on the development of joint initiatives in Russia as well as cooperation opportunities in the power sector in Italy.

Background:

The Italian natural gas market is the third largest market in Europe after the United Kingdom and Germany. The share of gas in the Italian energy mix exceeds 30%. The main gas importers to Italy are Algeria and Russia.

According to provisional estimates, in 2008 Gazprom supplied Italy with more than

22 billion cubic meters of gas.

Enel is Italy’s largest power company, and Europe’s second listed utility by installed capacity. It produces, distributes and sells electricity and gas across Europe, North and Latin America. Enel has a presence in 22 countries with approximately 95 GW of generating capacity and serves nearly 60 million power and gas customers.
