OREANDA-NEWS. April 3, 2009. In the first quarter of 2009, stevedoring company Vostochny Port OJSC handled 3.320 million tonnes of cargo (-15%, year-on-year), the company’s press center reports.

According to operational data, in March the company handled 1.274 million tonnes of cargo (88% of March 08) including 107,000 tonnes of cargo handled by Universal Handling Terminal (59% against March 08). In the first quarter of the current year the terminal handled 413,000 tonnes of cargo (-8%, year-on-year).

In the 3-month period of 2009 Specialized Coal Complex handled 2.907 million tonnes of coal (84% of Q1 08) including 1.167 million tonnes of coal handled in March (92% against March 08).

According to Sergei Kushnarev, Director General of Vostochny Port,  the decrease should be attributed to the fall of the demand for coal due to the fall of its market price.
 
Vostochny Port Joint Stock Company - is the largest stevedore company in the Far East of Russia. Its main specialization is coal handling using conveyer equipment. Vostochny Port OJSC comprises Specialized Coal Complex and Universal Handling Terminal specializing in transshipment of general and bulk cargo (clinker, coal, coke, iron-ore concentrate, timber etc.). It also handles metal, cellulose, chemicals, long-size and heavy cargo. In 2008, Vostochny Port handled 14.998.4 million tonnes of cargo (-8%, year-on-year).
