OREANDA-NEWS. On 06 April 2009 was announced, that on Saturday, 28 March, World Wildlife Fund carried out the Earth Hour Event when people all over the planet switched light for one hour.

Deputy General Director for Technical Policy, IDGC of Centre, JSC, Sergei Schumacher noted that IDGC of Centre, JSC power system was prepared for this event, all the more so, as light switch off was not overall. The Company’s power employees took additional measures to reduce possible risks: both from 20.30 to 21.30 and after it the power equipment worked stably.

The voluntary event symbolised the solidarity of the Earth inhabitants who care about the global warming on Earth and irrational use of natural recourses.  The main aim of the event is to change the attitude of people towards electricity consumption and appeal to the politicians to take decisive measures for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. As a result over 1 billion people in almost 4,000 cities of 88 countries switched off lights at the Earth Hour and, thus, expressed the world solidarity. Thousands of Moscow citizens joined the event and switched off light in their flats.
