OREANDA-NEWS. April 8, 2009. The first lot of low enriched uranium in 2009 was delivered to the United States on Apr 7 2009 under the contract between Techsnabexport OJSC (Tenex, 100% subsidiary of Atomenergoprom OJSC) and US Enrichment Corporation (USEC). This contract is part of the HEU-LEU (Megatons to Megawatts) Agreement signed by the governments of the United States and the Russian Federation on Feb 18 1993.

It was the first of this year’s deliveries to be carried out at a new price agreed on by the governments of Russia and the USA (the Russian Government approved the change on Mar 30 2009).

According to HEU-LEU Agreement, in 2009 Atomenergoprom companies are supposed to deplete almost 30 tons of highly enriched uranium and produce over 830 tons of low enriched uranium for delivery to the United States and further use as fuel for local commercial nuclear reactors.

Techsnabexport’s this year’s deliveries will allow Russia to meet its international obligations in the framework of HEU-LEU Agreement and to ensure budgetary revenues worth over USD 900mln.
