OREANDA-NEWS. On 10 April 2009 was announced, that Polish-Lithuanian interconnection project sees significant advancement: a regional office has been opened for the coordination of the development of Poland’s north-eastern regional transmission grid. The modernization of the power lines in this region of Poland is one of the key prerequisites for the implementation of the power bridge project with Lithuania. The regional office was established by Poland’s transmission power grid company PSE Operator’s daughter company EPC S.A.

“Opening of regional office for development coordination of transmission grid in Poland is a significant step towards implementation of the interconnection project. The power link between Lithuania and Poland primarily needs reinforcement of the Polish electricity transmission grid in north-eastern region, i.e. to modernize nearly 500 km of power transmission lines. This will be taken care of by the regional office”, - said Mr.Jaroslav Neverovic, General Manager of LitPol Link, the company in charge of implementation of the interconnection. According to him, subsequent to the modernization of the power lines, stretching as far as Elk (Poland), there will also be a need to modernize the Elk substation and construct another 106 km of power lines, stretching to the border of Lithuania.

According to Mr.J Neverovic, opening of the regional office will expedite LitPol Link’s project as preparatory works for the interconnection of the power systems will be coordinated with modernization work on Poland’s north-eastern transmission grid, requisite for the project implementation.

The investment plan developed by LitPol Link stipulates that the decision of shareholders on the interconnection's construction launch is to be adopted by end of first quarter, 2010.
