OREANDA-NEWS. April 13, 2009. Rostov Nuclear Power Plant filled with water the feeder channel and the collecting scoop of the pumping station of the 2nd unit. This operation is one of the key preparatory stages for the commissioning of the unit.

On Apr 7 2009 a special working sub-committee gave green-light to the work. The operation was started on Apr 8 at 10:00 PM.

The water supplied from the cooling pond to the pumping station has yet to be treated before being delivered to the technological systems of the unit. But the fire extinguishing and the cooling systems, which are essential for the launch, are already in service.

Presently, the general contractor of the project, Nizhniy Novgorod Atomenergoproekt (NIAEP), is planning and controlling the construction of the 2nd unit on a daily basis. The abovementioned operation was started in time. The work was done by Stronik and Mostostroy-6 OJSC and supervised by the specialists of the turbine department of Volgodonsk NPP led by their head Oleg Shperle.

The supervisor of the start-up campaign-the general inspector of Energoatom Concern OJSC Erik Pozdyshev, the director of the Volgodonsk Branch of NIAEP Nikolay Petrenko, the head of the Department for the Construction of Rostov Nuclear Power Plant Alexander Palamarchuk and managers of sub-contractor organizations took part in the operation.

Pozdyshev said: “This is a serious step towards the launch of the unit. The supply of process water will allow us to start-up the main circulation pumps – the main arteries of the heart of the unit, the reactor.”
