OREANDA-NEWS. April 16, 2009. The share of nuclear power plants in total energy production in Russia must be increased to 25%-30% despite the financial crisis, Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin said during a conference on nuclear energy today.

This is an ambitious but quite realistic task and, given the present situation, it requires enhanced attention. “Now, in the face of the global financial-economic crisis, we must see what we must do to solve this task,” Putin said.

He said that in many developed countries the share of NPPs already exceeds 25%-30%. “We must catch up with them. There are no small things here: we should find necessary financing, develop networks and solve lots of other problems, which are important irrespective of their scale,” Putin said.

He pointed out the importance of this task and said that 26 new reactors must be built towards this end.
