OREANDA-NEWS. April 17, 2009. Delegation from China visited SJSC Latvijas dzelzcels (LDz) and together with management board of LDz and LDz Cargo Ltd, subsidiary of SJSC Latvijas dzelzcels, discussed further opportunities for cooperation, reported the press-centre of Latvijas dzelzcels.

Latvijas dzelzcels presented to the delegation from China an offer in rail transport in Latvia highlighting advantages of rail infrastructure and perspectives of container transportation.

“The meeting with representatives from China state administration is a new positive milestone in cooperation with China. The aim of LDz Cargo is to transport containers from China to the EU through the territory of Latvia. An interest on our offer from China delegation indicates that it will be possible to develop cooperation,” said Guntis Macs, Chairman of the Board of LDz Cargo Ltd.

This meeting is the next step after the expert meeting of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia and China Railway Ministry on the development of container transportation in Eurasia, which took place in November 2008.

In Latvia the delegation from China was introduced to national economy of Latvia, as well as to opportunities of economic cooperation with Latvia.

On 7th May 2008 the first experimental container train ran from China to Europe (port of Hamburg) through the territory of Latvia (port of Riga).
