OREANDA-NEWS. On 27 April 2009 was announced, that Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov believes that the only efficient method of setting up the price of natural gas is "direct agreements between the seller and the buyer."

"This is quite logic that a producer country should set up the price based on gas production costs, which vary significantly depending on climatic conditions, the location of hydrocarbon deposits, methods and technologies used for their exploration and extraction," the president noted speaking at the international conference "Reliable and stable transit of energy and its role in maintaining sustainable development and international cooperation" in Ashgabat on 23 April.

According to the president of Turkmenistan, "due to some serious objective reasons the idea of creating international structures by natural gas producing countries in the form of certain supranational regulators, including the issue of pricing, yielded no result."

"Within the framework of specific agreements with consumer-partners Turkmenistan sets up the price of natural gas based on production costs and trends in the price situation in the world markets. This approach to forming the price of natural gas is fair," Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted.
