OREANDA-NEWS. April 24, 2009. Chusovoy Metallurgical Works (CMW, Perm Territory), part of United Metallurgical Company (OMK), has invited bids for a General Contractor for the dismantlement of Blast-Furnace 2, reported the press-centre of OMK.

CMW plans to select the General Contractor before late April and start phase 1 of the furnace reconstruction (dismantlement). The decision to build a new facility is supposed to be made within 2009.

After the reconstruction, the annual capacity of CMW's main melting facility will be about 1 million tonnes of cast iron, which is twice as much as the current capacity.

The reconstruction project provides for several new engineering solutions: conversion to the conveyor feed of charging material and coke; alteration of the blast-furnace cooling system. The construction of a process-water treatment plant will make it possible to considerably reduce the volume of river water supplied to the cooling elements, which will extend their service life.

Owing to these engineering solutions, Blast-Furnace 2 will become a modern melting facility operating in compliance with international environmental standards. The new furnace will have modern gas-cleaning systems (two dust exhausting plants with a capacity of 900 thousand cu m an hour) and recycling water supply (without any discharges into the Chosovaya River).
