OREANDA-NEWS. On 28 April 2009 was announced, that April, 15 at 20:55 (08:55pm) in the unified power system (UPS) of Central Asia a system outage has occurred with the result that there was a customer curtailment. The large scale curtailments – in the north of Kyrgyzstan (about 900 MW), Almaty oblast (over 700 MW) and Zhambyl oblast (106 MW).

Cause of outages is an incident at Toktogulskaya GES and load reduction of station from 540 MW to 0 and following separation of transit “North – South of Kazakhstan”. The result is that south zone of Kazakhstan NPG and UPS of CA have started to work in isolated mode with reduction of frequency from 50H to 48.6H.

With a view to restore power supply, the system operator of “KEGOC” JSC has made the lines energization in operation mode. At 23:00 (11:00pm) the parallel mode with UPS of Central Asia has been restored. Present time to clarify the causes and the consequences of incident, there is formed an intersystem commission with participation of the representatives of KDTs “Energia”, the power systems of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tadjikistan.
