OREANDA-NEWS. April 29, 2009. State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is ongoing development at the world’s oldest offshore oilfield (it is under development since 1949) in national sector of the Caspian Sea – Neft Dashlari (Oil Rocks).

SOCAR reports that the fifth well (#2560) with depth of 1 554 m and daily debit of 15 tons of oil has been put into operation from Platform #2387 at the field.

The platform operated since 2007 is intended for drilling of 10 wells and according to geologists’ estimate, each of them will produce 10-15 tons (75-112 barrels) of oil a day. The operating four wells have overall daily debit of 80 tons.

“A similar block at Platform #2415 will be commissioned these days. Preparing of first test well from it is under way. Operation of Platform 2521 will begin before the end of 2009.  It is planned to drill 36 wells from the above-listed three platforms (including Platform #2387) with overall debit of 400-450 tons a day,” it was reported.

On 7 November 2009 the field will mark precisely 60 years from the very beginning of its development. This year SOCAR expects to put into operation 21 new wells at it to increase oil production.
