OREANDA-NEWS. On 30 April 2009 was announced, that the World Grain Forum will be held in St. Petersburg on June 6-7 under the Presidential decree and will be timed to the International Economic forum .JSC “Lenexpo” will host most of the events.

Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov has headed the organizational committee.

In accordance with the Forum program, which has already been approved by the committee, plenary session will be devoted to the problems of forming grain market and food supply in the light of new possible risks such as global financial crises, unstable grain production, unjustified growth of protectionism.

More detailed discussion on the mentioned topics will be held during four conferences and two business forums with over 1500 representatives from over 80 world countries.

Arkady Zlochevsky, President of the Russian Grain Union, says that Forum’s main aim and theme is stabilization of food supply situation which will help to make the world population feel more confident about food issues, satisfy consumers and urge food producers to provide enough food supply.

He also marked that Dmitry Medvedev, Russian President, invited heads of several states to take part in the event and also official invitations were sent out to ministers of agriculture of 86 countries and 24 confirmation replies have already been received.

Grain Forum is organized by the government of the Russian Federation together with Russian Grain Union and in assistance with Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Several heads of states ,ministers of agriculture of G 8 countries, heads of main international organizations, national and transnational grain associations, financial and bank structures are expected to participate in the event.

Elena Skrylnik, Russian Minister of Agriculture, invited G 8 ministers of agriculture and said that she would like to have a detailed discussion on the food supply management issue at the World Grain Forum on June 6-7 in St. Petersburg, and new solutions able to give more stability to the grain market should also be included into the agenda. These solutions could differ in many ways, such as forming mechanisms and management models.
