OREANDA-NEWS. On 04 May 2009 the recently announced results of the competition Monde Selection-2009 in Brussels showed that 4 beer varieties from Baltika Breweries won awards simultaneously. In the Pilsner category — beer with an alcohol content of between 4.2 and 6% by volume. Gold awards were given out to the varieties Don Classic and Nevskoye Classic, while a Silver award went to Uralsky Master Classic. The strong beer Baltika №9 ("Nine") received a Gold award in the Bock category — beer with an alcohol content of between 6 and 12% by volume.

It is especially nice that honorary awards went not only to classic varieties of beer but also to Baltika №9, a beverage with a strength of 8% which has a full beer flavour and aroma. In 2008, "Nine" also was exhibited at two international competitions — Superior Taste Award (Belgium) and World Beer Championships (USA) — at which it received silver and bronze medals respectively.

This year the Company exhibited its regional varieties Don and Uralsky Master at an international competition for the first time. The recognition received at Monde Selection was confirmation of their very high quality, fully meeting world standards of beer-brewing.

Monde Selection is an internationally known and accepted competition at which the best samples of alcoholic beverage, food, tobacco, cosmetic and perfume products are tested each year. It has been held in Belgium ever since 1961. Today it is rightfully considered one of the most authoritative competitions of high quality goods in the whole world. High-class professionals constitute the juries of Monde Selection. Selection of winners is made on the basis of numerous criteria, including checks of the flavour and chemical properties of the various products. The Gold award is given to beer varieties which possess excellent flavour qualities and have received no less than 80% of the possible points, while Silver goes to varieties which received more than 70% of the points.

We remind readers that last year the highest award of the Monde Selection competition — Grand Gold — in the category ‘Bottom Fermentation Beer’ (Dortmund type) — was given to the variety Yarpivo Yantarnoye.
