OREANDA-NEWS. May 5, 2009. The international seminar on the Strategy of Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Turkmenistan was conducted in the conference hall of the Chief Tax Service of Turkmenistan

The forum organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Institute for Strategic Planning and Economic Development brought together the leading Turkmen and Korean economists, the experts representing the national ministries and departments concerned, the Union of Manufacturers and Entrepreneurs and the Korean companies operating in Turkmenistan.

Greeting the forum participants Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Turkmenistan Mr. Kim Chong-Yul focused on the high dynamics of development of the intergovernmental relations fostered by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s state visit to the Republic of Korea last November. Highly appreciating the vast perspectives for mutually advantageous cooperation in the basic sectors of the economy such as textile industry, construction, transport and communication the diplomat put emphasis on paramount importance attached by the Republic of Korea to cooperation in energy sector as a major segment of the economies of two friendly countries.

The Turkmen and Korean scientists presented the national reviews focused on the complementarity of two economies, the potential and priorities of social and economic development. Exporting up to 97% percent of energy the Republic of Korea was keenly interested in cooperation with energy-rich Turkmenistan actively pursuing the policy of diversification of transit of energy to international markets. However, the expertise and achievements offered by “the country of morning freshness” ranking among the world’s leaders in nanotechnology could be widely applied in the dynamically developed fuel and energy sector of Turkmenistan that aimed to attract the best international practice and maintain wide cooperation with all partners concerned.

Highly appreciating the profound contribution made by the potential Korean partners to developing and applying science intensive, advanced technology and environmentally friendly industries the Turkmen specialists showed keen interest in further discussing the opportunities of close cooperation in this important sector. Putting emphasis on the existing profound resource and scientific potential of Turkmenistan and Korea the sides expressed the readiness to carry out the joint fundamental and applied scientific research which would promote economic progress of two countries as well as friendship and mutual understanding between the Turkmen and the Korean peoples.

Focusing on the need to conduct such meetings on a regular basis the seminar participants expressed belief that this forum would initiated a determinative stage in the history of the traditionally friendly Turkmen-Korean relations.
