OREANDA-NEWS. On 07 May 2009 was announced, that dedicated to the celebration of Victory Day Domodedovo Art Gallery is proud to present an exhibition of one of the most famous photoreporters of our country Victor Akhlomov. The retrospective features photos filmed during the period between 1965 – 1990. Many of the photos were made during the celebration of 40 years of victory in 1985, there were many veterans among us then.

In 1960 Victor Akhlomov graduated the faculty of photo journalism of the Central House of Journalists and was hired by Alexey Adjubey ,chief editor of the famous “Izvestiya” newspaper, as a photo correspondent of the “Week” – a weekly supplement to the newspaper. He takes pride in the fact that this record was the first and last one in his work book.

The legendary correspondent still remembers his first assignment – to make a portrait of Anna Akhmatova. He still tries to correct his mistakes and constantly works on improving his pictures. Working as a reporter Akhlomov has filmed kilometers of black-and-white film, captured thousands of different faces amongst which were Maya Plisetskaya, Mother Teresa, Alla Pougacheva, Korney Choukovsky, Dmitry Likhachev, Mstislav Rastropovich, Yuriy Nikulin and Vasiliy Aksenov.

Viktor Akhlomov holds four honorable diplomas of the international prestigious World Press Photo contest (in 1981 – 1983 was a member of the contest committee), is a prize winner of the Union of Russian Journalists award, acclaimed cultural worker of the Russian Federation, is a winner of many international and Russian contests. One of the largest collections of works of the legendary journalist is a collection of portraits of veterans, which he filmed during his whole career. Every year the amount of portraits grows, whereas the number of veterans becomes smaller and smaller. The priceless photo gallery preserves images of unshakable fighters of the Second World War captured by a man with a sincere admiration for people.

The exhibition is organized with the support of Russian ZOOM, PHOTOTravel and PRIMEPHOTO journals.
