OREANDA-NEWS. On 07 May 2009 OMZ (Uralmash-Izhora Group) (RTS: OMZZ; LSE: OMZD; OTC: UHMVY), one of the largest heavy machinery company with assets located in Russia and the Czech Republic, announced that OMZ Special Steels, part of the OMZ Group, has successfully passed a certification of its non-destructive inspection laboratory. The certification procedure was conducted by the Russian Maritime Navigation Register (RMNR).

The certificate allows OMZ Special Steels to conduct non-destructive inspections (ultrasound, magnetic powder and dye penetrant techniques) on metals and ferrous alloys (carbon and alloy steels including steels designed for the shipbuilding sector), steel and iron castings, forgings, stampings and steel pipes for shipbuilding and marine engineering. The certificate is valid until April 10, 2014.

Russian Maritime Navigation Register founded in 1913 is a well-known and highly respected classification organization providing high quality standards for the shipbuilding industry and developing rules for building of ships and technical norms of the ships’ durability. It is a member of International Association of Classification Societies (IACS).

OMZ Special Steels' products for the shipbuilding industry have also been certified by a number of other classification societies which are International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) members including Lloyd's Register of Shipping (LR, UK), Germanischer Lloyd (GL, Germany), Det Norske Veritas (DNV, Norway), Bureau Veritas (BV, France), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS, USA), Registro Italiano Navale (RINA, Italy) and Russian River Register (RRR).
