OREANDA-NEWS. May 12, 2009. Turkmenistan will take part in World EXPO 2010 which will take place from May 1-October 31 in Shanghai (the People’s Republic of China). Our country will be represented for the first time at this world’s largest forum, which is to provide an open platform for the constructive international dialogue on economic cooperation. In accordance with the Resolution of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Union of Manufacturers and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan are authorized to conclude the necessary contracts with the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination.

Dynamically developing Turkmenistan demonstrating rapid rates economic growth have much to showcase at the prestigious universal forum, which will bring together world’s business elite. To date, 186 states and 47 international organisations have applied for participation in EXPO 2010.

World EXPO takes place once every five years but the preparations and organization period are so grandiose that the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination starts to prepare for the next exposition immediately after the previous one has closed. It is expected to generate the largest number of visitors in the history of the world's fairs in terms of gross numbers – about 70 million people.

The theme of the exposition will be "Better City – Better Life" that is quite close to Turkmenistan. The ongoing large-scale urban development programme of unprecedented scale and objectives is able to impress even the boldest imagination. Today white-marble Ashgabat is rightfully recognized as one of the most beautiful and comfortable cities in the region and the world. With every passing day the reforms pick up speed in each part of the Turkmen land. Thus, World EXPO 2010 will be a new opportunity for Turkmenistan to get acquainted with latest achievements in this and other spheres, extend the geography of its mutually advantageous contacts with foreign partners and for international business community to know more and have the firsthand information about Turkmenistan, its economic potential, priorities and prospects of development.
