OREANDA-NEWS. May 12, 2009. The Belarusian social and economic development model has proved its effectiveness in overcoming consequences of the crisis, Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky told a solemn meeting held in Minsk’s Palace of the Republic, reported the Official website government.by.

“At present the endurance of Belarus just like the rest of the countries and their economies is being tested by the world financial and economic crisis. In these conditions the Belarusian model of the social and economic development has proved its effectiveness once again. We haven’t curtailed a single social programme while social and economic goals are fulfilled to the extent determined by the Head of state,” noted the Prime Minister.

Yet Belarus had to act fast to keep up with rapid changes of the situation, to take the necessary measures to stimulate the economy development as much as possible. Q1 2009 performance indicates that correct decisions have been made to ensure the economic security, said Sergei Sidorsky.

According to the human potential development index Belarus ranks 64th out of 177 countries and 1st in the CIS. It is one of the countries with a high level of the human potential development. All these achievements have been earned through hard work of the Belarusian nation. Peace, social accord and stability have been secured in Belarus, stressed the head of Government.

“Our country intends to make the national security interests respected both by enhancing its military potential and promoting effective cooperation with all countries of the world,” noted the head of Government.

Belarus well remembers the lessons taught by the Great Patriotic War. “This is why we all understand the need for peace on our planet and do our best so that the tragic events, which killed dozens of millions, will never happen again,” said Sergei Sidorsky.

New challenges and threats of the XXI century have become international. International terrorism, drugs trafficking, considerable stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction, installations with an ecological hazard potential, unequal distribution of military potentials and their unjustified build-up by certain countries are common international problems. They require joint coordinated actions of the entire global community, creation of an effective international security system, stressed the Prime Minister.
