OREANDA-NEWS. May 14, 2009. Roscosmos offered to imply customs duties on the GPS-receivers and automobiles which are not equipped with GLONASS/GPS receivers imported into Russia. Roscosmos Head Anatoly Perminov stated that establishment of these customs duties was possible. According to him, Roscosmos submitted this proposal to the Russian Government.

Perminov explains that this is one of the ways to support Russian production companies. It is necessary, he says, to import the cars with GLONASS/GPS receiver installed.

"If there is no GLONASS receiver in the car, the import is not possible, or the customs duties become much higher", Perminov describes Roscosmos prposal. With these limitations the "drivers have to use GLONASS, there is no other way for them".

The proposal does not contradict with the international law, since Russia is not the member of of World Trade Organization.
