OREANDA-NEWS. On 18 May 2009 was announced, that Valdis Dombrovskis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, had met representatives of foreign mass media accredited in Latvia. It was the second meeting of this type aimed at providing the most up-to-date information and develop open discussion on Latvia’s opportunities to overcome the economic crisis, Government’s priorities and measures taken.

Representatives from more than ten foreign mass media participated in this meeting. Question to the Latvian Prime Minister mainly focused on the international lenders (the International Monetary Fund and the European Commission), stability of the Latvian financial system, progress towards the introduction of the euro, drafting of the budget amendments and public expenditure cuts, economic indicators and opportunities for resumption of economic growth, as well as protection of the society and social guarantees during the slow-down of the national economy.

Some questions were about the celebration of the Victory day on May 9 at the Uzvaras parks, calculated damages of Latvia during the Soviet occupation, opening of the Baltic energy market and Project of the Visagina nuclear power plant in Lithuania.
