OREANDA-NEWS. May 19, 2009. Russian companies are ready to take part in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Turkey, Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin said after his meeting with Turkish PM Recep Erdogan on Saturday.

“Mr.Prime Minister has already said that our companies are participating in a tender for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Turkey. Particularly, our companies may build four big reactors in that country,” Putin said.

“We are also ready to participate in the construction of a thermal power plant and to supply it with gas,” Putin said.

“Nuclear energy is a new field in our cooperation. As you may know, Russian Aromstroyexport has taken part in a tender for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Turkey. All the other companies have dropped out and, shortly, we are planning to finalize all procedures under this tender,” Erdogan said.

The tender was announced in late Mar 2008. As many as 13 companies applied for participation in the tender but only the Russian-Turkish consortium (Atomstroyexport, Inter RAO UES and Park Teknik) has qualified for the final round.

Atomstroyexport offers to build four NPP-2006 nuclear reactors with a total capacity of 4,800MW by 2012.

The consortium fully undertakes the financing of the project and will be given ownership over the plant. In their turn, the Turkish authorities guarantee the purchase of the plant’s electricity at fixed price.

Initially, Atomstroyexport suggested \\$0.21 per 1 KWh but then reduced the tariff to \\$0.1533/1 KWh.
