OREANDA-NEWS. May 19, 2009. The World Bank intends to allocate additional funding for the projects on improvement the competitiveness of Moldova.

As the Director of the World Bank in Moldova Melanie Marlett has announced at the press conference, the additional funds will be provided to the Moldovan exporters. According to WB, now the World Bank negotiates with the Moldovan government on this issue. Melanie Marlett said that the project is at the early stage of discussion and now the conditions, amounts and time of implementation of the project are discussed.

Melanie Marlett noted that the additional credit for the improvement of competitiveness of Moldova project is aimed to assist the Moldovan exporters to overcome the crisis. The project will be implemented within four years period (January 1, 2006 - 31 December 2009).

The total project cost is US 14.3 million. In addition to the loan and grant from the World Bank, totaling US 9.8 million, the Japanese government will allocate US4.5 million. The aim of the project is to assist Moldova in improving competitiveness of the business environment and to develop appropriate standards, as well to provide the companies with testing and quality improvement systems.
