OREANDA-NEWS. May 22, 2009. A trolleybus line sub-station was opened in Volgodonsk on May 20 2009 in the framework of the construction of social facilities in the 30-km monitoring zone of Volgodonsk Nuclear Power Plant. It was the last stage of the construction of the circular trolleybus line in B-8 and B-9 micro-districts.

The new modern 740KW sub-station will help to significantly increase the load of the trolleybus lines and to enhance the traffic in B-8 and B-9 micro-districts. Now the area will have 16 trolleybuses.

The circular trolleybus line connecting the remotest districts with the center of Volgodonsk was opened in late Dec 2008. It was New Year’s present of Volgodonsk NPP to its satellite city. However, the capacity of the line was enough for just two trolleybuses.

Last year the plant also financed the installation of lights in eight streets of the city and the laying of several kilometers of water and gas pipelines and dozens of kilometers of internal roads.

886mln RUR has been spent on the construction of social facilities of the 30-km monitoring zone of Volgodonsk NPP since 2002 with 190mln RUR to be spent in 2009.
