OREANDA-NEWS. On May 25, 2009 President Alexander Lukashenko held a working meeting with Nikolai Domashkevich, Head of the Property Management Directorate of the President of the Republic of Belarus, reported the press-centre of president.gov.by.

Alexander Lukashenko was given an update on the main performance indicators of the 106 companies subordinate to the Property Management Directorate, which provide employment to a total of 26,000 people. ‘Those who think that the Presidential Property Management Directorate is an organisation that paints floors at the Presidential Residence could not be more wrong,’ said the President.

Most of these companies are now reporting good economic results and are profitable, according to Nikolai Domashkevich. The number of loss-making companies reduced by half, with as few as 12 of them left out of a total of 106. These are predominantly small companies employing between 15 to 20 people and related to Belkhudozhpromysly, Belarus’ biggest producer of artwares. But the situation at these companies is also gradually improving. An objective was set to promote national artistic trades so that this industry could be profitable.

Nikolai Domashkevich has also informed the President on the state of affairs in such fields as the fish industry, recuperation and treatment industry and the selling of confiscated property, which were brought under the jurisdiction of the Directorate to address their shortcomings and generally bring good order to them. Earlier the President had given instructions to create opportunities for Belarusian citizens to buy no less than 20kg of seafood a year per person. ‘To date, we have reached the level of 18kg,’ said Nikolai Domashkevich.
