OREANDA-NEWS. May 26, 2009. Gomel oblast’s first anaerobic digestion plant has been put into operation in the one of the region’s biggest poultry farms. The plant produces 330kWt of electrical energy and 450 kW of heat energy per hour.

The plant will produce 2.6 million kW of electrical energy and 4.2 million gigacaories of heat energy a year. This will satisfy 50% of the company’s needs in electrical energy and cut in halve the company’s heating expenses. Another cost-effective opportunity is the processing of manure into a high-quality eco-friendly fertilizer. It will be used as organic fertilizer for agricultural uses of the company.

The project cost more than br8 billion. The equipment was supplied by Austria’s AAT. The main expenses were covered by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the Energy Efficiency Department.

The Gomel poultry farm is the biggest producer of eggs in the Gomel oblast. The company includes 32 poultry houses for 850,000 hens and a hatching house for 4 million chickens a year.
