OREANDA-NEWS. On 26 May 2009 was announced, that the ceremony of opening of the country's first metallurgical plant with the capacity of 160 thousand tons of finished products per year was held in Turkmenistan. It has been built by a consortium of Turkish companies Erenko and Sehil. The plant will produce construction fittings, building corners and channels, thereby reducing the volume of imports of similar products.

Each shop of the newly opened plant - steel, reinforcing-rolling and profile-rolling - is equipped with modern high-tech electronic equipment. The plant will work around the clock, in four shifts, and will employ more than 800 people.

"Metal working is a long-standing tradition of the Turkmen people. The Steel Plant that we are inaugurating now in Ovadandepe is evidence that there has grown a new generation of metallurgists, who are worthy descendants of their famous ancestors," Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said speaking at the opening ceremony of the plant.

"We will continue giving priority to the development of metal fields and other minerals discovered in Turkmenistan," he noted.
