OREANDA-NEWS. On 26 May 2009 COMSTAR – United TeleSystems (COMSTAR-UTS, LSE: CMST), the leading supplier of integrated telecommunication solutions in Russia and the CIS, announceв connection of the new office of the German Academic Exchange Service at the Embassy of the German Federal Republic in Moscow (DAAD, Deuscher Akademisher Austaush Dienst) to the broadband Internet.

Under the project, COMSTAR-UTS has installed fiber optic cables and arranged an Internet channel with a capacity of 10 Mbps based on the company’s own Next Generation Network (NGN).

Roman Akatov, COMSTAR-UTS Commercial Director for Corporate Market Operation, says: “COMSTAR-UTS has been present on the Moscow telecom market for quite a long time now, and the company uses a well-developed telecommunication network to provide its customers with the highest-quality telecom services. COMSTAR is constantly improving the quality of services and customer support. This is also confirmed by many years of our co-operation with DAAD: it’s been eleven years now that we have been providing communication services that the German Academic Exchange Service needs for efficient information handling.”

The project is being realized as a part of the provision of broadband Internet services to the DAAD. Previously, during activities in August 2008, optical cable was installed to DAAD premises located at Leninsky prospect, 95À, and an Internet channel with a capacity of 10 Mbps was arranged. COMSTAR-UTS has been co-operating with the German Academic Exchange Service since 1998.

Gleb Kondrashevsky, IT specialist of DAAD, says: “It’s been for quite a long time that we have been using communication services provided by COMSTAR, and we highly appreciate their quality. When developing relations between Germany and Russia in the area of science, culture and education, we have to be confident in the communication quality, since continuous handling of huge volumes of information is an important part of DAAD activity.”

DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) is a self-governed organization of higher education establishments in Germany. As of June 2008, DAAD incorporated 229 participating German higher educational establishments and 125 fraternities. It acts as a mediatory in making foreign cultural policy as well as German policy of higher education and research. DAAD has 14 representation offices abroad and 49 information centers all over the world. It issues some 55,000 scholarships a year.
