Sevmash Honored Memory of Atomic Submarine “Komsomoletz”

OREANDA-NEWS. On 26 May 2009 was announced, that the collective of “Sevmash” honored the memory of atomic submarine “Komsomoletz”.

Twenty years ago the atomic submarine was sunk in the Norwegian Sea due to the fire and floatability loss. 42 crewmen died, among them submarine commander captain Eugene Vanin.

The loss of the unique deep-water submarine with the hull made of titanium alloy was a bereavement not only for the Navy, but also for the collective of PO “Sevmash” built “Komsomoletz”. Till today no one battle submarine could reach the depth of its diving – 1027 m. There are no analogue structural materials used for building “Komsomoletz”.
