OREANDA-NEWS. On 28 May 2009 was announced, that in mid-May, Agrofirma Niva Ltd., PAVA farming unit located in the Solton district of the Altay Territory, finished sowings of wheat. The planted acreage stood at 1,000 ha. Currently, preparative works for buckwheat sowings are nearing completion. The fields are cultivated with disk harrows which contributes to better mixing of stubble in the upper layer, loosens and levels the soil, consequently improving its quality.

The company has already carried out preventive maintenance of seeders for buckwheat plantings. Overall, Niva will sow 3,200 ha with buckwheat. Earlier, the farm sowed 1,154 ha of winter wheat, fulfilling the total complex of crop treatment works.

“Climatic conditions of the Solton district are ideally suited for growing buckwheat, which is why we decided to allot significant acreage for this crop – 3,200 ha. Spring and winter wheat will be planted on 2,154 ha. All sowing operations accurately comply with the business plan and approved schedule”, comments Andrey Ananin, PAVA Director General.
