OREANDA-NEWS. May 28, 2009. The Federal Medical-Biological Agency of Russia has permitted the construction of two units of Seversk Nuclear Power Plant.

Presently, Energoatom Concern OJSC is undergoing the procedure of licensing for the construction of Seversk NPP. The public and the Ministry of Emergency of Russia have approved the project. The results of the environmental impact assessment and the report confirming the ecological safety of Seversk NPP have been submitted to Rostekhnadzor. Energoatom Concern is expecting to obtain the license by the end of this year.

Seversk Nuclear Power Plant will be built 30 km north of Tomsk in the closed administrative territorial district of Seversk and is supposed to guarantee the further economic development of Tomsk region. The NPP-2006 project fully meets the requirements of the international and national safety regulations.

The plant is supposed to serve for 50 years.
