OREANDA-NEWS. On 02 June 2009 was announced, that 30 communities in Lviv region suffered from the hail and rain storm, which lasted from April 10 to April 12. By estimation, the approximate amount of damage is UAH 265,000. The staff of Oranta's Lvov directorate promptly processed the claim submitted by aggrieved policy holders, and the board of the company made the decision to pay about UAH 240,000 as an insurance compensation.

The natural disaster in Western Ukraine last year became one of the major natural catastrophes in the country for the last decades. It demonstrated the country's vulnerability to natural and anthropogenic catastrophes and caused nearly UAH 4 billion in damages.

Taking into consideration the scale of the natural disaster, Oranta National Joint-Stock Insurance Company did not wait for the decision of State Commission on Regulation of Financial Services Markets in Ukraine but ensured that the aggrieved clients were paid promptly. The company simplified the procedure for processing claims from natural persons and maximally cut the number of the documents necessary for paying insurance compensations. Altogether Oranta paid over UAH 10 million.

In addition, the company initiated a charity campaign, which helped to collect over UAH 50,000. The funds were raised to help people and to restore sacred objects damaged by the natural disaster in Western Ukraine.

Due to the global climate change, the number of natural disasters has increased recently. The damage caused by the natural disasters overwhelmingly burdens the state budget of the country. The accidents that occur prove once again the importance and social significance of insurance.

The insurance coverage should become the only mechanism of protection from the aftermath of catastrophes. It is a powerful financial tool for minimizing losses suffered by the population and government from unforeseen situations. The insurance policy guarantees protection of the property that one acquired and earned.
