OREANDA-NEWS. June 02, 2009. A big delegation of the OSCE Ambassadors representing several member states of this large international organisation – Greece, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and others paid a visit to Turkmenistan.

The guests held the important meetings at the Mejlis, the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under President of Turkmenistan, the State Border Service and were received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

Greeting the guests Vice Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov focused on Turkmenistan’s steadfast adherence to cooperation with the largest international organisations including its long-term partner – the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe. The members of the delegation were briefed on the priorities of the ongoing grandiose reforms in Turkmenistan and the major aspects of the policy of updating the national legislation and empowering civil society.

Exchanging view the sides discussed a wide range of the issues of further collaboration in the key fields of partnership including the politico-military, economic, ecological and human dimensions that were of primary concern to OSCE. It was noted that global security was an essential factor of sustainable development of any state.

Discussing the tasks arising from the existing positive experience and new prospects of mutually advantageous partnership the sides noted that in recent years Turkmenistan and its European partners had established an exceptionally constructive dialogue that had been given a new quality and dynamics today. Highly appreciating the growing role of Turkmenistan, whose status of neutrality stood as appositive factor of the social and political climate in the Central Asian region, the guests expressed keen interest of their countries as well as OSCE in intensifying fruitful collaboration, which were offered new incentives by the Turkmen leader’s active, innovative policy. In this regard the OSCE Ambassadors highly appreciated Turkmenistan’s achievements on the path of the progressive reforms initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to cement the supremacy of law and enhance the democratic principles on the modern Turkmen society as well.

Focusing on the need to continue the dialogue though searching for the political tools and approaches to addressing challenges and problems of the modern world, the principles of humanism and global security adequately called for by international community the sides expressed the reciprocal willingness to continue joint work in such strategic fields as combating drug trafficking, organized crime and terrorism, strengthening border control.

During the visit the OSCE delegation will visit Turkmenbashi, where they will have a meeting with the administration of the littoral town and get acquainted with the large-scale project on creation of the Avaza national tourism zone on the Caspian Sea.
