OREANDA-NEWS. On 03 June 2009 was announced, that at least 3 four-lane tunnels are planned to be built within the development of Moscow’s fourth ring road.

“Three lanes in the subways are not enough for us, we need four traffic lanes. It will enable to use the tunnels under construction in Moscow at their full capacity. Such tunnels will be put up at least on 3 sections of the fourth ring road,” Yury Roslyak, head of Moscow’s Department of Economic Policy and Urban Development, said on May 26.

The city authorities intend to use the equipment by Herrenknecht AG for developing the four-lane tunnels in Moscow. As a reminder, these machines have been already used during construction of the tunnels in Lefortovo and Serebryanyy Bor within Moscow.

The first section of Moscow’s fourth ring road, from Entuziastov Highway to Izmaylovskoe Highway, is currently under construction in eastern Moscow. The work is scheduled to be done by late 2011. The whole development of the fourth ring road is expected to be completed in 2013. Its total length will be 74 kilometres that is almost twice as long as the third ring road of Moscow.

The route is stipulated by the design to have 4 lanes in both directions and roughly 6,000 vehicles will be able to pass through it during rush hours. According to preliminary estimates, this road will cost the Moscow budget over 660 billion roubles (USD 21 billion).

The Moscow officials assure the project financing won’t be cut down.

Mr Roslyak emphasized that it was very important to pay great attention to implementation of the international projects to find ways out of the financial crisis.

“Implementation of such projects is the way out of the crisis. This is a mechanism that allows companies to produce, function provide employment and create new jobs,” the official added.
