OREANDA-NEWS. June 03, 2009. Nizhniy Novgorod Atomenergoproekt OJSC (NIAEP) has won tender for the construction of the 3rd and 4th units of Rostov Nuclear Power Plant announced by Energoatom Concern OJSC.

The Rostov NPP project is part of the series of unified projects with WWER-1000 reactors (1,000MW). The estimated cost of the project is 145.396bln RUR in current prices.

Since June 2007 NIAEP has been the general contractor of the construction of the 2nd unit of Rostov NPP.

Nizhniy Novgorod Atomenergoproekt is part of Atomenergoprom OJSC, a state-owned integrated holding consolidating the civil assets of Russia’s nuclear industry and offering a full package of services in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy: from uranium mining to NPP construction and power generation. NIAEP designs and builds nuclear reactors, manages and supervises NPP construction projects, prepares nuclear units for commercial operation, acts as general contractor under projects to build and start up NPPs and to supply materials and equipment for NPP construction projects.

Atomenergoprom OJSC (Atomny Energopromyshleny Kompleks) is a state holding that is supposed to comprise 89 nuclear companies and to cover the whole range of nuclear services: from uranium mining to NPP construction and electricity production. Atomenergoprom’s companies will have a total of 175,000 employees and an annual production of 200bln RUR (5.5bln EUR). Atomenergoprom is one of the biggest players on the world market: it has a 40% share in the world’s uranium enrichment services, 17% in nuclear fuel production, 8% in uranium mining, 28% in NPP construction (10 reactors). The director of Atomenergoprom is Vladimir Travin, the chairman of the board of directors – Sergey Kiriyenko.
