OREANDA-NEWS. German businessmen support the economic liberalisation policy Belarus pursues, said Tobias Baumann, Head of the Department for Russia, Eastern and South Eastern Europe, Turkey and Central Asia of the German Union of Chambers of Industry and Commerce, at the III German Economy Day in Belarus in Minsk on June 3.

“We believe that the steps for Belarus economy liberalisation are right and support these reforms,” said Tobias Baumann. “These changes have been noticed across the entire planet,” he added.

According to Tobias Baumann, it is important for the Belarusian side to find reliable partners. Privatisation requires a particularly careful and considerate approach.

The representative of the German Union of Chambers of Industry and Commerce underlined that the open economy policy has already borne fruit and the policy should continue. As an example he mentioned that in 2005 the representation of the German economy arranged visits of two or three German delegations to Belarus while in 2009 seven visits of German business circles are supposed to take place.

President of the Board of the German-Belarusian Economic Club Claus Bayer remarked that the present complicated economic conditions require the sides to work even harder. “One shouldn’t wait till the bad weather is over but do his best to give a new boost to the development of economy and cooperation,” he said.

At present there are 400 companies in Belarus with a share of German capital. In 2008 Belarus-Germany trade reached \\$3.6 billion.
