OREANDA-NEWS. On 05 June 2009 was announced, that the 34th annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank officially opened in the Turkmen capital. High-ranking delegations from 55 countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the forum, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attended the opening ceremony. Welcoming the meeting participants, the head of state said Turkmenistan supports the activities of the Islamic Development Bank that is actively promoting sustainable economic growth of its member states, development of private enterprise, international trade, education and health, and better social protection of people.

During the summit, the Islamic Development Bank and the Asian Development Bank signed a memorandum at President Hotel in Ashgabat on the start of operations of the joint infrastructure fund. Under the document, banks will on a parity basis finance investment projects related to infrastructure development in twelve Asian countries, including Turkmenistan. USD  500 million were allocated for this purpose.

On the same day, the 20th annual symposium titled "The formation of the post-crisis world: regional implications and concerted response of IDB member states" was held in Ashgabat. The symposium participants discussed measures taken by IDB member states to minimize the impact of the global financial crisis on their economies. They agreed on working out recommendations to strengthen the economic stability.
