OREANDA-NEWS. June 15, 2009. The Central Bank of Azerbaijan has announced toughening of control over development of e-payments system in the country.

CB deputy chairman of board Alim Guliyev says that the Bank has launched special monitoring over operation of available cash machines and their due provision with cash.

“For period of validity of the Plan of Extra Measures on Payment System Improvement passed on 22 November 2005 quantity of active payment cards in the country exceeded 3.7 million. The CB has also submitted to the Cabinet Ministers a package of proposals for further actions in the area, in particular removal of additional payment when making social payments, provision of regular power supply and communication services for cash machines in regions,” Guliyev said.

At present the country is numbering three processing centres for card payments.
