OREANDA-NEWS. On 16 June 2009 was announced, that JSC "Grindeks" opened new industrial sewage purification plant where the principle of biological purification has been implemented and the most modern technologies installed. The principle of biological purification is the most modern and environmentally friendly way of sewage purification in chemical industry. In total, 2.5 million lats were invested in the project.

Minister of the Environment of the Republic of Latvia Raimonds Vejonis, Chairman of the Council of JSC "Grindeks" Kirovs Lipmans and Chairman of the Board of JSC "Grindeks" Janis Romanovskis participated in the formal opening.

Chairman of the Council of JSC "Grindeks" Kirovs Lipmans: “The technologically modern purification plant is a purposefully planned investment project, so that upon increasing production capacities we could not only ensure the growth of turnover of "Grindeks", but also efficiently take care of environment protection. Only stable and forward-looking companies may afford the most modern and environmentally friendly solutions and investments of such a wide scope – 2.5 million lats.”

Construction of "Grindeks" industrial sewage purification plant was implemented within two years. Closed purification plant is compact, as well as ensures stable purification processes and decrease contact of hazardous waste with the environment. The plants guarantee efficient decontamination of the specific pharmaceutical production sewage and prevent the potential damage to the environment. A laboratory is also established in the purification plants where waste water analyses are made.

Chairman of the Board of "Grindeks" Janis Romanovskis: "Grindeks" "is a leader in several areas related to development of industrial technologies and has always been an example to other companies regarding the issues of work quality and environment protection. The concept of industrial sewage purification plant is currently one of the most modern concepts confirming that pharmaceutical industry and development of the company is consistent with careful attitude to nature.”

“Thinking Green” and environmental initiatives provide business opportunities – in the future, "Grindeks" plans to develop and expand sewage investigation in the laboratory of purification plant, as well as provide sewage purification modeling services to other industrial companies.

The technological design of the purification plant was developed by a Swedish company “AnoxKaldnes”, which has considerable experience in implementation of the specific pharmaceutical sewage purification projects for other large pharmaceutical companies. Construction work was carried out by a Latvian building company “Ekotehnologijas”.
