OREANDA-NEWS. June 17, 2009. The Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (AMEA) with the support of the European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN) keeps working on creation of the national network system Grid.

The Institute informs that the network is planned to be put into operation already this year.

“The works over creation of this network are expected to be completed this September.” it was informed.

Wide opportunities will open with use of this system for further expansion of scientific relations with the CERN.

“Grid network will be ready by the start of next year. CERN provided more than 300 computers for the Institute of Physics.” it was reported.

The network creation project also involves the Ministry of Communications & Information Technologies, the Institutes of Radiation Problems and of Information Technologies, Baku State University and State Oil Academy of Azerbaijan.

Unlike Web which is a mean for joint use of information through Internet, Grid is a mean for joint use of computer capacities and database through Internet. Thus, Grid allows leaving the frames of simple exchange of data between computers and turn global network of computers into single almost unlimited computer resource.
