OREANDA-NEWS. On 17 June 2009 was announced, that the Orthodox Сhurch and the church members of the republic celebrate the Feast of All saints whose light shone forth in Karelian Land. The holiday has been officially assigned to this date with the blessing of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II in 2004 and is celebrated on this day for the fifth time. On June 3, 2000 the Patriarch has consecrated the restored Alexandro-Nevsky Cathedral which remains the main temple of the republic ever since.

On this holiday the church members come to the church to pray for prosperity of their native land, for well-being of theie families. Festive divine service in which Head of Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandov has taken part took place in Alexandro-Nevsky Cathedral.

By the end of the service Head of the Republic by tradition has addressed to Archbishop of Petrozavodsk and Karelia Manuil and to the gathered church people with words congratulation and gratitude for their zeal of well-being of the native republic, active revival of national spirituality.

The Legislative Assembly of Karelia Chairman Nikolay Levin, acting mayor of Petrozavodsk Anatoly Buldakov, members of Government of the republic have also taken part in the festive divine service.
