OREANDA-NEWS. On June 16, 2009 the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, met with the heads of the Belarus-Germany economic cooperation council. In the course of the meeting it was stated that Belarus and Germany would develop mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields, reported the Official website president.gov.by.

Participating in the meeting were the State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology of Germany, head of the German party at the Belarus-Germany economic cooperation council, Bernd Pfaffenbach , and the Chairman of the Committee on Eastern Economic Relations, Klaus Mangold.

The President thanked the German side for helping resume ‘the work of the Belarus-Germany economic cooperation council after a lapse of ten years'.

‘We have been cooperating with Germany for a long time now, and we have brisk bilateral trade. We are attracted by new technologies developed in Germany. With a stable and predictable economy, stability in the country, Belarus can be a good partner for Germany,’ said Alexander Lukashenko.

‘We will always welcome German business and will provide security for investments,’ said the President.

The Head of State stated his readiness to consider any cooperation proposal from the German side.

B ernd Pfaffenbach said German businessmen are not only prepared to trade with Belarus but also to invest in the Belarusian economy.

According to him, the meeting of the Belarus-Germany economic cooperation council demonstrated the common understanding of many problems and a big progress in the development of the bilateral relationship.

‘Even in the past, harder times we understood our role as a bridge between Belarus and the European Union,’ said Bernd Pfaffenbach.
