OREANDA-NEWS. June 17, 2009. After an engine stop in the entrance channel onboard the ship Rosa proceeding out of the port, the ship was successfully moored to berth No. 5, which is operated by SC Klaipeda Stevedoring Company (KLASCO), reported the press-centre of Klaipeda Port.

On 10 June 2009 (Wednesday), at 1350 p.m., the Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) of Klaipeda Port received a notice on an engine stop onboard the ship Rosa (length – 95,16 m, width – 13,17 m, draught – 6,18 m, ship’s agent – UAB “Uosto vartai“, flag – Antigua & Barbuda) at about 1330 p.m. in the port entrance channel; the ship with 4633,73 tons of grain cargo onboard, after unmooring from berth No. 4, was proceeding out of the port. After the engine stop, the ship dropped an anchor in order to stop, however, while making a turn, the ship’s board hit buoy No. 5 owned by SE Klaipeda State Seaport Authority; as a result of damage, the buoy sank.

The staff of the Port Master Service promptly responded to this accident: they immediately contacted the employees of SC Klaipeda Stevedoring Company (KLASCO) and arranged mooring of the ship Rosa to berth No. 5 of the above-mentioned company.

The ship Rosa has been returned to the port for further investigation of the incident, engine repair and estimation of the damage.
