OREANDA-NEWS. On 22 June 2009 was announced, that official opening of the second stage of the international terminal took place at Tolmachevo International Airport (Nivosibirsk).

Heads of Tolmachevo airport, members of the Board, power officials and business communities took part in the opening Ceremony, followed by a briefing. 

Vladimir Nikonov, Vice Governor of Novosibirsk region, reminded the audience of the stages of the airport’s strategy of development: upgrade and reconstruction, increase of cargo capacity, improvement of passenger servicing, construction of a new terminal and development of a full-fledged aviation and transport hub. “Launch of this terminal marks the end of the first stage of the ambitious development project”, noted Vladimir Nikonov. “Much has been done to upgrade the servicing conditions for airlines, passengers, cargo flows and attracting new passenger and cargo flights to Tolmachevo. No doubt, it benefits the region, the people and the economy”.

Alexander Borodin, member of the Board of Tolmachevo airport and deputy director for development programs in the Ministry of Transport, noted that Tolmachevo was “ready to open such facilities again, as frequently as possible”.

According to Denis Kuznetsov, deputy general director of Tolmachevo airport, “launch of the second stage of international terminal was scheduled to open the summer tourist season; in as little as two hours’ time this terminal will receive the first passengers”.

Launch of the second stage of international terminal in Tolmachevo is a strategic event for Novosibirsk and Siberia in general. Expansion of the terminal doubles the airport’s capacity; yearly passenger flow will exceed 650,000 people. Besides, it improves passenger servicing technologically and improves the comfort of the airport for its passengers and guests.
