OREANDA-NEWS. June 25, 2009. Russia has been invited to take part in a tender for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Egypt, says Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko.

“We have already received the invitation. The tender will most probably be announced in late 2010,” says Kiriyenko.

A group of Rosatom experts will go to Cairo in a week so as to discuss the practical aspects of the project as well as the possibility of uranium mining in Egypt.

Russia has already presented its offer. “We are planning to build one nuclear power plant consisting of two-four reactors.”

“The starting cost of one reactor is the same worldwide – almost USD 2.5bln,” says Kiriyenko.

“We are satisfied with the choice of the project’s consultant. We have already worked with that company in Bulgaria,” says Kiriyenko.
