OREANDA-NEWS. On 02 July 2009 was announced, that Belarus’ producer price index (PPI) went down 0.1% on the month in May, but rose 19.6% in January-May 2009, an official with the National Statistics Committee told.

Production facilities prices edged up 0.1%, intermediate materials prices went down 0.7%, and consumer goods prices increased 0.8%.

Prices rose 0.4% in the medical industry, 0.7% in the microbiological industry, 0.4% in the light industry, 0.9% in the food industry.

Prices also rose in the fuel industry 0.5%, in mechanical engineering and metalworking 0.2%, and in other industrial sectors 0.1%.

Prices edged down 4.2% in ferrous industry, 1.3% in electrical power engineering, 1% in the chemical industry, 0.2% in the woodworking and pulp-and-paper industry, 0.2% in the construction materials industry and 0.1% in the porcelain industry.

Prices remained unchanged in the flour industry and petrochemical industry.

Freight tariffs went down 2.1% in May 2009 over April. Automobile freight tariffs went down 2.1%, and railroad freight tariffs went down 2.5%, air transport tariffs went up 2.6%, while pipeline tariffs went down 1.1%.

PPI rose 14.2% on the year in 2008 following the rise of 17.1% on the year in 2007.
