OREANDA-NEWS. July 06, 2009. Platineum Partners (USA) will build cement plant in Karakalpakstan Republic with the capacity of 1 million tonnes in 2009-2011.

The US firm already has started construction works and now is holding negotiations with the Chinese companies on supply of technologic equipment.

The project with the cost of USD 128 million will be financed due to own resources of US firm for USD 58 million and loans for USD 70 million, attracted without the guarantees of the government of Uzbekistan.

In 2008, Platineum Partners commissioned Tashkent Plant on production of gypsum plates with the capacity of 10 million square meters a year.

Uzbekistan planned to start construction of three cement plants in 2009 with attraction of the individuals, The capacity of the plants is 5.7 million tonnes and total cost of the projects is USD 700 million.

The projects will be financed due to foreign direct investments and own resources of enterprises and credits, attracted without guarantees of the government.

Along with plant in Karakalpakstan, it is planned to construct plant in Jizzakh region with the capacity of 3 million tonnes and the cost of 250 million euros and in Surkhandarya region with the capacity of 1.7 million tonnes and the cost of USD 300 million.

Demand for cement in Uzbekistan can reach about 12 million tonnes in 2012. At the same time, the country plans to export 4 million tonnes.

Currently, six cement plants work in Uzbekistan with total capacity of 6.5 million tonnes. Largest of them are Kyzylkumcement (capacity – 3.08 million tonnes), Ahangarancement (1.74 million tonnes and Kuvasoycement (920,000 tonnes).
