OREANDA-NEWS. On 09 July 2009 was announced, that Transaero Airlines successfully concluded its annual shareholder meeting, approving annual report with operational and financial results for 2008 in it.

Transaero passenger turnover in 2008 grew to more than 17.5 billion RPK, 49% more than in 2007. The airline carried more than 4.85 million passengers which is a 50% increase over 2007.

Transaero Airlines further strengthened its position as the second largest airline in terms of passenger turnover and the third largest in terms of passenger number in Russia. Transaero has also become Russia’s second international and leading tourist airline, and its share in the Russian aviation market in terms of passenger turnover grew from 10.7% in 2007 to 14.3% in 2008.

Revenues increased by 82.4% to 37.4 billion rubles. Sales profit constituted 1.83 billion rubles, 5.7 times more than in 2007. Transaero’s pre-tax earnings reached 225.58 million rubles, which is 70% more than in 2007. Net profit constituted 109.4 million rubles, a 7% increase over 2007.

Those results were achieved despite the sharp increase in fuel prices in the first half of 2008 and the financial crisis that characterized the second half of the year.

Transaero Airlines continues stable development of its business in 2009. The airline is following through with its ambitions domestic route network expansion plans. All Transaero’s main operational indicators on destinations within Russia have increased by 34% in the first five months of 2009 in comparison with the same period in 2008. Transaero has also become the largest carrier on routes from Moscow to the Russian Far East with passenger turnover to these destinations growing by 83% in January – May 2009 period. The airline continues with its fleet renewal program, adding next generation aircraft (Boeing 777s, Boeing 747-400s and Boeing 737-800s) to its fleet.
