OREANDA-NEWS. On 15 July 2009 was announced, that during the two-day visit of Mr. Marko Kranjec, Governor of the central bank of Slovenia, and Mr. Andrej Rant, Deputy Governor, in Lithuania guests arrived to Vilnius and were welcomed at the Bank of Lithuania. They met with Mr. Reinoldijus Sarkinas, Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, Ms. Ramune Zabuliene, Deputy Chairman of the Board, and Mr. Justas Minkevicius, Director of the International Relations Department.

“We introduced the central bank of the Republic of Lithuania to Slovenians, informed about the economic situation of our country, banking issues and actions already taken in preparation for the euro adoption. It was interesting to hear from the guests about the work of the central bank of Slovenia during the euro introduction. Their experience of operation within the Eurosystem was also interesting. We discussed the possibilities of further cooperation, for example, through the exchange of experience in the area of credit institutions supervision of both countries”, said Mr. Reinoldijus Sarkinas after the meeting with the management of Slovenia’s central bank.

The guests also made a comprehensive presentation of the euro introduction in Slovenia to the members of the Commission for the Coordination of the Adoption of the Euro operating at the Bank of Lithuania. Management of the Bank of Lithuania also participated in the meeting.

The euro was introduced in Slovenia on 1 January 2007. This country became the thirteenth member of the euro area. Today, the euro area consists of sixteen countries already. The Eurosystem consists of the European Central Bank and the national central banks that have adopted the euro.
